Uno – Regal beagle makes history

Uno, Top Beagle with trophy and ribbon.

Woof!  The dog world is agog!  Uno, a beagle, has won the coveted top prize at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show which just ended Tuesday this week at  Madison Square Gardens in New York!  This is the first time in the Show’s 132-year history that a beagle has won Best in Show! Arf!  We are so proud!

Uno who is still a pup  is no slouch when it comes to show biz but he is a true veteran when it comes to  sashaying down the green carpet. With 32 Best of Breed titles under his haunches, Uno shamelessly played to the crowd and the judges.

Barking and baying at every chance, this spunky little cousin stayed true to his breed’s nature.  Cute and sassy, Uno shamelessly cavorted down the green with plenty of “lets be friends” tail wagging and downright flirting with those golden-brown eyes.  I must say that even I was taken in by this charming and handsome young lad!

Tuesday was the day of crowning.  From the time he entered the rink, it was clear that Uno was the crowd favorite.  Cheers and loud applause greeted him on arrival.  He took it all in and loved it. I think he is a natural ham.   You know, I almost expected the crowd to break out with the Star Spangled Banner as this most beloved American breed took top honors.  Somewhere up in the sky, Snoopy is dancing a jig with Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts Gang to the chant of ”Uno, you do us proud!”

Dear BooBoo...

Oh!  I am so excited!  I got a Dear BooBoo email.  Jenny wrote:

BooBoo.  I just spent a fortune on doggie clothes for my Trixie. I can’t understand it.  She does not seem to want to wear the coat.  What should I do?

Jenny, my dear pet parent.  A bit more info would have been great. But here, let me try and answer.

As the proprietor of Boo’s Boutique where we stock some really classic coats and accessories for your dearest doggies, I am all for stepping out in style, but here is the thing, some of us doggies, are not yet accustomed to all the finery that you dearest parents are showering on us.

Now, if Trixie happens to be a bigger breed and has a long shaggy and thick coat of her own, the truth is, she may not need a coat. You can dress her up in other ways. I am sure that the lead and collar are gorgeous … I recommend a whole wardrobe of these … but then dress her up with some cute I.D. Tags, or a special clip on broach where the lead and collar connect.

But it could be that Trixie is just not used to wearing “clothes”.  In this cold weather smaller and short haired dogs who are accustomed to our warm homes, definitely need to don on something to keep their haunches warm.  Start her off by putting on a loose t-shirt for a few minutes a day … take her out for a quick run around the block.  Then as she gets used to the t-shirt replace it with the coat.  She will associate this with a pleasant activity – the walk.  I bet quicker than you can say liver biscuit Trixie will be at the head of the posh pooch parade in your neighborhood!

Goldendoodles

love going for walkies with mommie.  We go on so many different walks, but my favorite is the one by Boundary Bay.  Right by the ocean, sand dunes, and inner trails amongst bushes and reeds.  It is the best walk to meet other doggies.  We do love to socialize.

Lately, I have been meeting a lot of “oodle” dogs --- you know, a cross of one breed with a poodle.  I must say that they are very attractive, these doggies, and smart too.  Well, last week, mommie stopped to speak with the daddie of a brace of lovely goldendoodles - golden retriever and poodle.  Their names were Prada and Oakley. Love their style already!

The daddie was telling her why they decided on a cross.  They wanted puppies that were elegant and distinctive.  In the past they had golden retrievers.  Apparently, this breed has become very susceptible to cancer --- or at least in North America and that was the experience they have had with theirs.  They heard of a breeder on Vancouver Island who was crossing golden retrievers with poodles – but not just any golden retrievers, she brought hers over from Europe.  Result?  Beautiful dogs, friendly disposition, easy to train and very athletic.  Can a goldendoodle take the top prize at some future Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!

Homeless in Vancouver – doggies need a home

Dear New Human Friend and Potential New Parent

Our mom had to move to a tiny apartment in a crowded city and we are not allowed to stay there with her. She was trying to board us in a doggy hotel for a while but we don’t like it there, and she doesn’t make enough money to pay for our rent AND for her own. So we are homeless now – and quite desperate! We are therefore hoping that you will adopt us!!!

We are 2 VERY CHARMING 7-year-olds and sure you’ll fall in love with us the minute you see us! Although we can get carried away a bit in the presence of chickens, cars, or deer, we’re EXCELLENT COMPANIONS, extremely CUDDLY and perfect in the house (we never even chew on anything)! We are also GOOD WITH KIDS and enjoy playing with them. We have been mates now for 5 years and therefore would prefer to stay together – but might consider being separated if you really LOVE us.

We are looking for a LOVING and RESPONSIBLE human, who will spoil us and give us a GOOD new home – preferably in the country or in any case somewhere where there is a bit of space and not too many cars and other animals. Our mom wants him or her to have some experience with pups (she thinks we are ‘brats’) but we think that that’s not really necessary because we can easily train you (after all, we had to train our present mom as well).
Here are some pictures of us so that you can see for yourself how beautiful we are!…

In the picture on the right you can see both of us together on our favorite couch.

Please contact Gudrun, our mom, if you would like to adopt us: gudrun@haidagwaii.net or: 604-266-0650. We are looking forward to meeting you soon!

Chance & Gagiit.

Keep those emails coming …. Love to hear from you!

Till next time,

Barkfully Yours,

BooBoo
