Pup Artist – Marion Morrison

Stanley
Painting of my new buddy Stanley

Mommie and I were visiting Victoria again -  one of her favorite cities and certainly mine too!  What a treat!  We were there for afternoon tea … well that is what they do in Victoria my dear … Stanley, my lab host and I were kibitzing around outside when my ears perked up at the unmistakable sounds I have learned to recognize as appreciation of something beautiful.

Curiosity propelled my fours into the house.  Omigosh! I had no idea we were in the studio of Marion Morrison.  who is a renowned dog artist.  There propped up on an easel was a pup portrait in progress – sweetest Cocker Spaniel with the most soulful eyes, I was tempted to go up to the canvas and exchange a sniff … but I do know how mind my manners and knew that that would be a no no.

Now, I have seen many portraits of dogs but these,
these were real art.  They made me think of George Rodriguez’
Blue Dog art, which mommie has always admired and I have
always wondered about the dog always being blue. Never mind

Marion Morrison
Stanley’s mommie – the artist

Take a look at this portrait of Stanley. Marion Morrison has had commissions from as far away as Switzerland, England, Argentina and from just about every corner of North America.  The bold colors, the expressions, the interpretations!  I am barkless.  A Marion Morrison of your precious pooch will not only immortalize your loyal and best friend, but you can walk proud in knowing you have a real piece of art.  Your friends will be so impressed!

Ready-To-Wag --- Washington DC Does It in Style
Cara Mia!  When it comes to fund raising no one does it quite
like the Washington Humane Society and you can bet your
little petunias that truckloads of liver treats could not keep
this fashionista away from the Second Annual Fashion For Paws
gala event to be hosted at no less than the Italian Embassy,
presided by Ambassador Giovanni Castellaneta and
Mrs. Lila Castellaneta on April 12.

What a great idea they have!  Ready-to-Wear and Ready-to-Wag
apparel as both two-legged and four-legged models share the
dogwalk and parade the newest and the latest in spring fashion.
Honorary models include the who’s who of Washington
Society including well known personalities such as Philippe
Cousteau --- oui, oui, I know, the very same Cousteau of
the sea, well, actually his son.  Of course Ambassador and
Madame will strut their stuff along with a furry friend or two
--- I can hardly wait to see what the designers are rolling out
for spring.

The goal is to raise $170,000. Wooooo!  That’s something to howl
about!  In addition to the honorary models there are fundraising
models who are holding a friendly competition as to who can
raise the most … arf, I am so impressed, 14% of the goal
has already been reached!  It would not surprise me if the
generosity spilled over and the goal will be exceeded…

Well… so much for now.  Will cover the event and tell you
more…. Till then, Smooch! Smooch!  Smooch!

WINE DOGS – Travel, Wine, Dogs and a Good Read!

I can smell spring and with spring summer is not far behind!
It is a good time to start thinking of holidays.  I have a fab
suggestion.  Last year my min pin cousins Kava and Fritz
traveled with their parents in the lap of luxury … nice digs
at the back of the SUV with nice beds to curl up in if the
scenery got a bit… well, tedious.

Their mommie and daddie are real wine aficionados and they
planned their trip around west coast vineyards.  To hear of it
from Kava and Fritz this was the adventure of a lifetime.
They have a very organized mommie.  No more than 4 hours
on the road between places.  She had a list of pet nannies
at every stop, and pre-booked some for those nights when
they knew they would be out.

They loved that they got to stay at special boutique hotels,
to run and play on the grounds and chase birds and ground
squirrels and, the best is that they got to make new friends.
Every place that they stayed at had a resident dog.  In fact
they came back with a book – Wine Dogs.  Beautifully
photographed by Craig McGill, devilishly authored by
Susan Elliot, the book not only features these guardians
of the grapevine estates but also the wines and good stuff
to know about each place.   If you like good wine and
good food, you may want to plan a trip just like the one
Kava and Fritz went on.  You’ll have a great time and
your puppies will love you!

Oh woof!  Woof!  Can I say Happy Trails?

Till next time, have a barking good time!
